Expectations

My goal is to provide musically satisfying instruction which allows your child to experience the gratification that comes from making music. Each student will be equipped with the necessary tools to achieve this goal.

Lessons are an investment in a lifetime of pleasure. They are a chance to show me what progress you have made during the week, ask questions that come up in your practice, and be ready for instructions for the next week.  Practice as often as you can (aim for 5 days per week). Plan each practice to work on tone, technique, etudes, and solos (in that order). Set yourself up for success by having everything ready- your stand, a pencil, metronome/tuner, and your assignment guide.

Contract

Music is not learned in a day or a month but over time. The secret of success at music is commitment. In order to help you succeed, I ask your cooperation with the following policies:

 * Payment is paid for in advance by the month and is due the first lesson of the month for the next full month of lessons.  One 30 minute lesson is $20.  Other arrangements can be made on a personal basis.

* Make up lessons are available when 1) 24 hours notice is given OR 2) the lessons fall on a holiday.  Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are forfeited and the fee is not refundable.  It is the responsibility of the student to be at each week's lesson at the designated time.  Make-up lessons may be arranged with me at a mutually convenient time.

* If I am unable to attend a lesson, the payment for that lesson will be transferred to the next month.  In some cases makeup lessons may be provided.  If you cannot make up a lesson, payment will be transferred to the next month.  I will keep an accurate and up-to-date record of payment.

* Regular attendance is not just important, but polite.  Vacation days, sports schedules, etc. must be arranged when making that month's payment.  Students cannot progress if lessons are continuously missed; therefore, chronic cancelled lessons may result in the students’ removal from private lessons.

*Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson or in the living room.  Any questions on the students’ progress are welcome and encouraged.
